Introduction

AuctionBlox is integrated into your shopping cart allowing for seamless checkout of eBay listings as if they were products in your shop. This allows for advanced shopping cart features such as centralized inventory management between eBay and your shop.

AuctionBlox provides two main methods for checkout of eBay items:

  • eBay Third Party Checkout (eBay Checkout Redirect)
  • eBay Checkout using PayPal Payments

eBay Third Party Checkout (eBay Checkout Redirect)

This method of checkout redirects the buyer from eBay to your shopping cart for shipping and payment after the buyer clicks the "Pay Now >" button in the eBay listing or in My eBay.

This method of checkout is useful if you require a customized checkout flow, have complex shipping rules, or wish to offer a payment method other than PayPal.

Additionally, if you offer product attributes in your shop (such as a garment size), AuctionBlox can automatically display these product attributes during checkout of eBay items. However, it can only do this using eBay third party checkout.

Lastly, using this method you have the opportunity to upsell other related products during eBay checkout.

A small percentage of eBay buyers are reluctant to use a third party checkout system and will request that you send them a PayPal invoice in order to complete payment. This results in some manual work to handle this small percentage of users.

eBay Checkout using PayPal Payments

This checkout flow remains on eBay and PayPal like a standard eBay checkout flow, so the buyer does not know that a third party system is being used by the merchant.

This method of checkout is useful if you want the least amount of checkout hassles and only wish to accept PayPal for payment.

This method has the advantage of being compatible with PayPal Immediate Payment. This feature will not close a listing until payment has been made for the eBay item resulting in a 100% payment rate.

This method is virtually hassle-free since orders are automatically created in your shopping cart.

The disadvantages to this approach are:

  • You cannot upsell other products during checkout
  • You must have uncomplicated shipping rules for PayPal to charge the customer during checkout
  • You cannot have a customized checkout flow

Conclusion

The choice of which eBay checkout method you choose is primarily a business decision that you need to make based on your own business model. AuctionBlox can help you make that decision by talking through the various decision points. Free free to call us or send in a support ticket.
