How does Fixed Shipping calculate shipping costs?
The module takes the (Domestic or Global) “Shipping Cost” of the first item in the cart. Every other item’s shipping cost is taken from the “Additional Shipping Cost” of the items.
For instance, I have two items in my cart with the following shipping costs:
Item 1 – Shipping Cost: 4.95, Additional Shipping Cost: 2.50 Item 2 – Shipping Cost: 9.95, Additional Shipping Cost: 5.00
The module takes the 4.95 Shipping Cost from the first item, and the 5.00 Additional Shipping Cost from second item for a total shipping of 9.95
- If you offer a shipping discount, it is discounted from this (9.95) amount
- Any insurance is added AFTER the discount is applied so you are not discounting insurance costs
Be aware that if the items are added to the cart in reverse order, the shipping is calculated differently.
Item 1 – Shipping Cost: 9.95, Additional Shipping Cost: 5.00 Item 2 – Shipping Cost: 4.95, Additional Shipping Cost: 2.50
The module takes the 9.95 Shipping Cost from the first item, and the 2.50 Additional Shipping Cost from second item for a total shipping of 12.45
- If you offer a shipping discount, it is discounted from this (12.45) amount
- Any insurance is added AFTER the discount is applied so you are not discounting insurance costs
NOTE: Many users have expressed interest in changing the way the shipping is calculated. In a future version the module will take the most expensive Shipping Cost first, and then add the Additional Shipping Cost for the remaining items. Once this is implemented the above examples would both yield the same 12.45 shipping cost. This will allow for slightly higher shipping costs and allow users to maintain better control on their shipping expenses.
